Hailing from Oulu, Finland, Rällä continues skillfully and sensitively the beautiful heritage of traditional music from the vast and sparsely populated arctic Northern Ostrobothnia region. The style of playing is raw but creative, encouraging the arrangements to arise from the spontaneous communication between the musicians. The repertoire consists of mainly traditional tunes from Northern Osthrobothnia, but also include traditional tunes from all over North Finland. A major part of Rällä's musical identity lies in playing for dance and in the seamless communication between musicians and the dancers. During those intense moments dancers and musicians become one, and can reach a state that can be called flow or trance. Rällä has performed at the most important folk festivals in Finland and tours actively in Finland and especially in northern Finland. Rällä Fiddle Duo won the 2nd prize in the prestigious national Konsta Jylhä Folk Music Competition in 2022 and the whole band was awarded as The Newcomer of The Year in January 2023.
The musicians in Rällä are Osmo Hakosalo (fiddle), Erja Pätsi (fiddle) and Jouko Pääkkönen (accordion).
